"Pretty easy to use overall"
I’ve had a good experience with HomeExchange.com so far. It’s simple enough to find your way around, and the search and messaging worked fine for me. A few of the filters felt a little clunky at times, but nothing that really ruined the experience. Weirdly, I remember noticing this because I was trying to filter places while eating a bowl of cereal late at night. Overall, I’d say it’s a solid and easy site to use.

"As someone who likes to plan…"
As someone who likes to plan trips ahead and know exactly where things stand, using HomeExchange.com was really frustrating. I found a place that looked available for my dates, but after clicking around, it suddenly seemed like it wasn’t possible or that there were extra steps I hadn’t realized. I couldn’t tell what was actually confirmed and what was still pending. I also had to send messages and wait around, but never got a clear or helpful answer. For something that should make travel planning easier, it ended up taking way too much time and just felt annoying. I eventually gave up.

"Not as clean as expected"
When we got there, the place just didn’t feel properly cleaned. There was hair in the bathroom, the kitchen floor/counters felt kinda sticky, and it made the whole stay a bit uncomfortable. I wasn’t expecting anything fancy, just basic cleaning before guests arrive, so that was dissapointing...

"Dirty, damp, and disappointing"
The place just felt dirty and damp the whole time I was there. I kept noticing little things that didn’t work, and then another thing, and then another… it was hard to relax when everything felt kind of neglected. I really expected it to be better.

"Host was quiet near the end"
The booking itself seemed fine at first, and the host was somewhat responsive early on. But as my trip got closer, the replies got really slow and then basically stopped. I reached out to support too, but they weren’t able to help much. Overall, not the smoothest experience.

HomeExchange was fine overall, but the map for the place we booked wasn’t really accurate. It made it look like we were closer to town then we actually were, so we ended up driving more than we thought. Not a big disaster or anything, just kinda annoying. Next time I’d probably ask the host first to make sure where it really is.

I messaged them twice about an issue I was having and never heard anything back. Maybe they were busy or something, but when it involves a trip, it kind of feels like you should reply quickly. Just really frustrating and made the whole thing more stressful.

"Pretty Much as Advertised"
The place was pretty much exactly like the photos and description, which is always a relief because you never really know until you show up. The kitchen was a little smaller than I expected, and yeah, I had a minor moment of “wait, that’s it?” but it wasn’t a big deal. Everything felt honest, no weird surprises, and we ended up having a good stay overall.

I mostly use the HomeExchange.com app while I’m on trips, and for that, it’s been solid. Messages usually load quickly, and I can find the booking details without digging around too much, which is helpful when I’m out and about. It does freeze here and there, but usually closing the app and reopening it fixes the issue. For my needs while traveling, it does the job well.

I found a decent number of homes available for the dates I needed, especially once I stopped being too picky about the exact location. Some areas definitely had way more options than others, though. A few of my requests just never got a reply, which was a little irritating, but I did eventually manage to arrange a really nice exchange. Overall, it worked out well enough, you just have to be patient, apparently.

"I really like the idea behind HomeExchange…"
I really like the idea behind HomeExchange, but the trust and safety side doesn’t feel strong enough. I found myself having to do a lot of the work checking profiles, asking extra questions, and trying to figure out if someone seemed reliable. Some profiles barely had any details, which made me uneasy about letting strangers stay in my home. Support did respond, but it wasn’t always quick or very clear, so that added even more stress. I think the service could be great, but they really need better checks and more dependable help when something goes wrong...

"Late Replies Ruined My Plans"
The replies came way too late and everything stayed unclear the whole time. I was trying to plan around it, but because I couldn’t get a straight answer, my plans basically fell apart. Really frustrating experience.

"GuestPoints system felt a bit unfair"
I went into HomeExchange thinking it would be straightforward, but the GuestPoints system ended up being more confusing than I expected. I kept feeling like I needed clearer instructions on how the value is actually calculated, because some homes seemed way overpriced compared to others. It made the whole process feel a little unfair and more stressful than fun. For me, it just wasn’t worth the hassle.

"Felt stuck, and not really heard"
I had an issue with a host, homeexchange support wasn’t much help. They took forever to get back to me, and when they did, the replies were vague, and didn’t really answer my questions. In the end, I just felt stuck, frustrated, and like no one was actually listening. The dispute process, in my experience, is really weak.

"Verification helped me feel more comfortable"
As someone who’s cautious about staying in other people’s homes, I really appreciated that HomeExchange has member verification. It made me feel a lot more relaxed before messaging anyone. The process itself was simple enough, though it did take a little time for everything to get checked. I still make sure to read profiles and reviews myself, but knowing members aren’t just totally random definitely helps. Overall, it was a good experience. I just wish the steps had been explained a bit more clearly from the beginning.

"Filters keeps resetting"
I’ve been using it for a bit, and the filters resets way too often. It gets annoying having to set everything up again, and the search results feels kind of messy most of the time

I had to cancel and, i was ready to walk away for good if it turned into a hassle. Luckily, support got it sorted quickly and without much back-and-forth, so the whole thing was easier than I expected.

"Not Quite Worth It for Us"
I signed up feeling hopeful, thinking we’d use it a lot, but in the end the membership fee felt a bit too high for what we actually got out of it. Some of the homes did look really nice, but replies were often slow and a lot of the dates just didn’t line up for us. I can see it working better if you’re more flexible with travel, but for our situation it didn’t feel like great value. I don’t think we’ll renew.
